I believe the dog was a female because she squatted to pee; also she had mix of black and more beige tones rather than tan. I chose large (50-110 lbs) but due to her thin appearance she may have actually weighed in under that, do medium sized German Shepherd may be a better description. She had a larger head and snout but thinner sleek body. This is the best I can offer due to the time I actually was able to view her in our possession as someone else helped me capture her on the highway.
